FAQS
Frequently Asked Questions about the Liberty High School Band program
Marching Band
Will Liberty have a marching band?
Yes. We will have a marching band and will perform at JV football games and pep rallies as well as other possible performances. As we grow each year we will begin to appear at more marching competitions.
Will the marching band participate in competitions?
Yes. The level of competition however will depend on the number of band members. We will not compete in as many competitions as Cooper High the first year but as growth takes place this will change.
What is the band rehearsal schedule during the year?
The Liberty band will be a double blocked class (matching Cooper High). Outside of the class period we will meet either before or after school. The frequency of extra rehearsals will depend on the competitive route we choose and will be further defined in the Spring.
Will we have summer band?
Yes. We will have rehearsals starting no earlier than August 1st. This schedule will also be defined more this Spring.
What music should I have prepared for summer band?
Towards the end of the Spring semester all band students will receive music to practice over the summer. This will contain warm ups, stand tunes & cadences as well as our marching show music.
What do I need to bring for summer band?
This information will be shared with you in the Spring semester.
Will we have a color guard for the first year?
No. The plan is to start the color guard during the spring of 2024 and have a marching unit the second year. Please let Mr. Jones know if you are interested in pursuing the color guard.
What sections will be in the marching band?
We will have all sections minus the color guard for the first year.
Will we have leadership opportunities such as being a section leader for marching band?
Yes. You will receive more information on this during the Spring semester.
Concert Band
Will the band participate in Concert & Sightreading Evaluation during the Spring semester?

What other opportunities will the students have to perform and compete?
The Liberty concert band will also perform multiple concerts through out the late Fall and Spring semester.
In the Fall semester students will be able to compete in All-Region auditions which have the possibility of being placed in an All-Region band (which performs a local concert) and advancing to the Area and State levels.
During the Spring semester students will be able to perform and compete with solos and ensembles with the possibility of advancing to the UIL State level.
Will we have any outside of class rehearsals?
Yes. Just like middle school band we will have sectionals once a week. This will start after marching season and possibly not even until the Spring semester.
